Through remote surveillance and on-the-ground intel, Powell discovers the targets are planning a suicide bombing and the mission escalates from “capture” to “kill.” But as American pilot Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) is about to engage, a nine-year old girl enters the kill zone, triggering an international dispute reaching the highest levels of US and British government over the moral, political, and personal implications of modern warfare.

Also starring Alan Rickman, Barkhad Abdi, Jeremy Northam, Iain Glen and Phoebe Fox, the film is directed by Gavin Hood (TSOTSI) and written by Guy Hibbert (“Prime Suspect”). Producers are Ged Doherty, Colin Firth and David Lancaster.

DIRECTED BY Ron Chapman

Country: Canada
Language: Spanish
Subtitles: English

Running Time: 95min
Film Year: 2016

The amazing diversity of contemporary Cuban music is gorgeously explored in Ron Chapman’s third documentary feature. The Forbidden Shore follows the great success of The Poet of Havana, which featured Carlos Varela. With this ambitious new film, Chapman captures the full gamut of what’s happening now in Cuba, both the most exciting artists and the distinct musical scenes they move in, from classic son and salsa, to trova, nueva trova, reggaton, rock, jazz, metal, rap, electronic, classical, choral, pop, changu, danzón, rumba, yoruba, bolero, conga, timba, mambo and—if you can believe it—more.

But the present can only be understood within the context of the past, thus the film’s wonderful soundtrack is comprised of music new and old, of the sounds of modern iconoclasts and the immortal music of the old guard. This is a one-of-a-kind journey into the heart and soul of a sonic culture like no other, a place where music is cultivated and thrives through the enduring desire of its people to forge a sound that is all their own.

The new film from Ira Sachs (Love Is Strange) explores a life-defining friendship in the midst of familial turmoil, as the bond between a new pair of best friends is tested by their parents' battle over a dress-shop lease in New York City.

Thirteen-year-old Jake (Theo Taplitz) and his parents -- Brian, a struggling actor (Kinnear) and Kathy (Ehle), a psychotherapist -- find themselves moving back into their old Brooklyn home, just above the dress shop of single mother Leonor (Gloria's Paulina Garcia in her first major English-language role) and her charismatic son Tony (Michael Barbieri). When the couple decide to raise the rent on Leonor, a feud ignites between the adults and strains the formative kinship between Jake and Tony, who dream of attending the same prestigious arts high school together.

At once blistering and poetic, the ravages of colonialism cast a dark shadow over the South
American landscape in EMBRACE OF THE SERPENT, the third feature by Ciro Guerra. Filmed in stunning black-and-white, SERPENT centers on Karamakate, an Amazonian shaman and the last survivor of his people, and the two scientists who, over the course of 40 years, build a friendship with him. The film was inspired by the real-life journals of two explorers (Theodor Koch-Grünberg and Richard Evans Schultes) who traveled through the Colombian Amazon during the last century in search of the sacred and difficult-to-find psychedelic Yakruna plant.
